Modern Conveniences Are Making Us Dumber

Anything that makes the brain not work to get the information it is seeking is hugely detrimental. Because simply put practice keeps you in shape – including your mind state. Today none of us knows more than a phone number or two by heart but we have huge contact lists stored on our phones. That may seem reasonable but it has been more than a decade that collectively we’ve lost abilities that allows us to build complex “intellectual objects” – models of reality with all needed associations and connections.

One strangely sounding observation, but a fact, are the schizophrenics of today – they never exibit the complex associative structures with which shcizophrenics 30 years ago and more started the disorder (depicted for example in the movie “A Beautiful Mind”). The patients of old experienced gradual falling apart of the associations and connections. Ending up with something like “pieces of broken glass” – pieces of the whole. Today’s patients start with very little associations/connections – they start with the “pieces of broken glass”. On top of that the “pieces” are not even “big” but more like crushed glass – very dissocated from each other. The result is a schizophrenic that is very boring, nothing connecting in his mind, no convoluted and complex theories and ideas – be it abnormal or not.

All that is seen as an example of the degeneration of the way all of us process the world around us and as a result of the way we process it using a lot of helfpul “crutches”. No other way to look at it – cool and helpful “fixation points” are definitely not what they seem to be and feel so nice to use.
